When visiting the Byron Bay Hinterland, near Rosebank and Upper Coopers Creek, be sure to visit Minyon Falls and Palm Valley.
Minyon Falls is 100
metre high waterfall which drops down
into the deep palm-shaded gorge below
called Palm Valley. A three hour round
treck will take you into some of Australias
most stunning World Heritage listed
rainforest. You will see some of the
largest beauties still left standing
including Blackbutt and Scribbly Gums
as well as sub-tropical Booyong rainforest
and Brush box. Minyon Falls is part
of a larger area known as Minyon Falls
Flora Reserve which, because of its
high scientific, recreational and
scenic value, is excluded from all
logging operations. The large display
board will show you the way as you
embark on your walk. There are also
toilets and BBQ facilities so it is
a wonderful spot for a picnic.
This pristine rainforest
is home to over 300 species of native
plants and animals. The Kookaburras
and Goannas will spot you a mile away
however you will have to look closely
if you want to see the other animals
of the forest. These include Koalas,
King parrot, Kookaburras, Tawny Frogmouths,
Bower birds, wrens, brush turkeys,
echidnas, gliders, owls, eagles and
so many more. |
